Comment choisir le bon matelas ?

Chambre à coucher

Buying a great mattress can help improve your quality of sleep, boost your energy levels, and it can even prevent many health conditions. That’s why it’s a good idea to be very picky when it comes to selecting the right mattress. That does bring the question, how can you choose the right mattress for you? Here are the main things you should be looking for!

Choose a mattress based on your sleep position

We don’t all sleep the same. And that means the mattress you buy for your white bed frame or full bed frame is different. For example, if you sleep on your stomach, you want to go with a firm mattress. Back sleepers want to go for a medium mattress, since it will give better support for the spine. And if you sleep on the side, then a softer mattress will contour to the body curves, and provide better support.

The type of mattress is important as well

You can opt for different types of mattresses. Memory foam mattresses can offer pressure relief, since they are conforming to your body’s structure. Latex mattresses are similar to memory foam, but they are a bit firmer and more resilient. An innerspring mattress is made out of steel coils, and that makes the mattress firmer. That also means it can be a bit bouncier when compared to others. You can also find hybrid mattresses that use latex and coils or memory foam, usually a combination of these.

Based on sleep concerns

If you have issues with constantly waking up during the night as you are sweating profusely, then you want a cooling mattress. These mattresses have a dedicated cooling technology and they are also breathable. Some even have electric cooling. If you have back pain issues, you can find some mattresses that are specifically built for people with back pain.

Mattress construction features

Another thing to note about choosing a mattress is that you also want to check the different construction features. What you will notice is that some of these have specific, helpful features like modular firmness or edge support. You can also find mattresses that provide you with motion isolation, something you want to keep in mind. Taller mattresses tend to have multiple layers and those can deliver more comfort. It’s important to perform your due diligence as you narrow down the best option to fit your requirements.

Mattress size

Obviously, depending on the bed frame you have, you will need to go with a specific mattress size. Check and see what kind of frame you have, if it’s a double bed frame, king bed frame, queen bed frame, twin bed frame and so on. Based on that, you will need to narrow down the right mattress size that fits your frame.

Price

You should always set a budget that’s in line with your needs. What we recommend is to not cheap out on your mattress purchase. Remember that we spend around ¼ of our lives (or even more) sleeping, so we need to invest in high quality gear, especially when it comes to a mattress. We highly recommend taking your time, studying the market and the features you want. Then you can adapt and adjust your price accordingly.

Warranty

Ideally, you want to check if the mattress comes with any warranty. The most reputable mattress manufacturers will always provide you with extensive warranty. However, not all companies will do that. Again, it comes down to you to perform your due diligence and know exactly what you’re getting for the money.

Should you replace your current mattress?

Some people might think that it’s time to replace their current mattress with a new one. However, is it really the right time to make such a change? Generally, you want to replace a mattress every 8 to 10 years. Sometimes it’s more, sometimes less. But in general, if your mattress is over 7 years old, you should think about changing it.

Technologies are getting better, and you can improve your sleep quality immensely with a newer mattress. Yes, it will take a bit of time to narrow down the best option, but it will certainly be a worthwhile investment, especially if you are serious about improving the way you sleep and alleviating back pain.

We encourage you to use these tips and tricks if you want to find the right mattress that fits your needs. Investing in a good mattress should always be your focus, but at the same time, you want to ensure that you’re getting a very good value for money. In the long, you’ll get a better experience if you focus on quality rather than inexpensive mattresses, so use that to your advantage. Rest assured that spending a bit more on a good mattress will always be worth it!
